It's often
a hard task to change someones thinking, but this is something Dayboro
Psychologist Janet O'Donnell is hoping to achieve in her new Peace of
Mind Centre.
The philosophy behind the Peace of Mind Centre, located at Suite 2/475
Gympie Road Strathpine, is to promote the benefits of Psychological
Therapy to the wider community.
Some of you may know Janet, who specialises in Clinical Counselling
Psychology, from here previous practice at Strathpine Healthcare Clinic
and Landmark Place in Spring Hill.
She said it was common for people to think that had to be in a bad way
to seek assistance when in reality everyone could benefit at certain
times in their lives. "Sometimes life can become overwhelming.
Difficulties at work, problems communicating with family members, stress....but
there are psychological strategies and techniques that may help".
The Australian Bureau of Statistics' National Mental Health Survey (1997)
found almost one in five Australians experienced a mental disorder at
some time during 12 months before the survey was conducted.
Anxiety disorders were most common, and affected one in ten adults.
Janet combines Cognitive Behaviour Therapy with Relaxation training
for many anxiety and stress problems.
Janet has incorporated a relaxation room in the new premises where clients
can practice meditation and relaxation techniques.
In future months she hopes to offer group workshops at discount prices
and healthcare card holders concessions will be available for one on
one sessions.
Readers are invited to attend an Open Day and FREE Sausage Sizzle on
Saturday 27th March from 11AM till 3PM.
You can inspect the new centre and find out more about whats on offer
by speaking to Janet and here team.
